Pap Smear Testing

A Pap smear is a routine screening test done by Dr. Jao during a pelvic examination. The surface of the cervix is scraped with a small brush and the scraped-off cells from the cervix are fixed in a preservative solution. This slide is called a Pap smear and is sent to a special laboratory where it is processed and evaluated by highly trained technicians and doctors.

A small percentage of women will exhibit small changes in the cervix resulting in an inconclusive or abnormal Pap smear. These women will generally be advised to have a Colposcopy for further evaluation.
